  • Condition: Used in a research setting, mostly in media prep. Glass pipets have been repeatedly washed using a vigorous industrial dishwasher and steam-sterilized. The volume-coding blue patches therefore faded or absent. The tapered tips bear the brunt of being rattled around in the sterilizing can, and we've discarded any with meaningful damage. To a variable degree, pipets show a whitish discoloration — especially near the tip — that could be hard water or dry agar residues. Three photos with a black background, cropped but not otherwise altered, illustrate this phenomenon, which isn't evident on light backgrounds needed to show pipet markings. The sterilizing can shows some oxidation, plus some tape and pen residues. Its lid and body fit together snugly; neither piece appears to be dented. Photos depict the detailed condition of the actual item for sale; those with a white background have been cropped, background altered, and contrast/brightness adjusted.

    Description

    Here's an alternative to piling more biomedical plastic waste onto landfills, a set of glass serological pipets that you can wash, sterilize if you like, and reuse. They are made of Kimax, a tough borosilicate glass that resists attack by organic solvents that could cloud, dissolve, or leach who-knows-what from plastic pipets. Volumes are indicated with multiple labels at each intermediate whole-mL mark.
    These 5 mL in 1/10 pipets hold up to 5 mL with every mL labeled, and graduations every 0.1 mL (larger at half- and whole-mL volumes). Marked to deliver (TD) at 20 degrees C. Please carefully read the Condition Description: these items are definitely used and show variable wear. They are functional but you will not confuse them for new pipets!
    Comes with a sturdy stainless sterilizing cylinder (similar to Pipet Sterilizing Box, Fisher 03-465), a tough cylinder that is a little over 16 inches long and 2.5 inches in diameter. The pipets are slighly longer than the longer (inner) part of the can. You might want to jam some glass wool in there to prevent rattling around (not provided). Can has a fluted interior junction, as shown in one photograph.
