HARDANGER ADVENTURE by JONALENE T GUTWEIN *cutwork /*withdrawn* counted thread🧵
JONALENE GUTWEIN is far more knowledgeable than me regarding needlework and she describes this design as hardanger.  Yes, elements of hardanger are part of the design but what draws my attention is the cutwork, also called withdrawn thread. Guess that's the "adventure" part of the title.
It is an exquisite combination of these two techniques. The pristine white linen shows the embroidery without distraction.
Many of us who have tried withdrawn thread were frightened out of our wits prior to taking up a very sharp, fine pointed embroidery scissors ✂️. We despaired after making a wrong cut, then learned it could be repaired. At some point anxiety fades away and we have a new skill.
This design may be a bit much for a beginner, but you could practice on a sample cloth to gain experience. As you may have deduced, I had great expectations that were never realized.
Please note the shop used adhesive stickers which I always remove. This one was very tenacious and marred the booklet. There are no written by remarks or notation. The copy is clean.
