The vital statistics: one 1899-R Italy 1 lire coin; KM# 24.1; silver 0.8350 fineness, 5 g (0.175 oz) weight, actual silver weight 0.1342 troy oz, 23 mm (0.91 in) diameter.
The two pairs of images were made in the same location under the same light.  Only the background is different.  For some reason a white background provides better image resolution.  But it also gives silver coins a misleading golden hue.

Reverse
The Savoia crowned coat of arms decorated with the Collare dell'Annunziata divides the value and the Star of Italy above the crowned shield with the mintmark below the wreath, on the right, all encircled in a wreath made by a branch of laurel and one of oak.

Interpretation:
FERT was the motto of the house of Savoy, adopted by King Vittorio Amedeo II (1666-1732). It is thought to be an acronym, though what it stands for have been lost to time. Theories include:
1. Foedere Et Religione Tenemur (Latin, ?treaty and religion bind us?)
2. Fortitudo Eius Rempublicam Tenet (Latin, ?his bravery [or strength] preserves [or defends] the state?)
3. Fides Est Regni Tutela (Latin, ?faith is the protector of [our] kingdom?)
Another theory suggests that it is in fact the Latin word fert, the third-person singular present active indicative of ferre (Meaning he/she/it suffers/bears), in reference to Jesus bearing the sins of the world.
This coin is in extremely fine condition.  Details of the coin's designs are clear & distinct.  Gengle wear is visible on the coin's highest surfaces.
