    Description

    The Banca d'Italia issued Italian Lira banknotes in 10 different denominations, including this 1000 Italian Lire banknote (Maria Montessori). They are part of the Italian Lira banknotes series. The Banca d'Italia started issuing these 1000 Italian Lira banknotes in 1990. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2002.
    The note of lire mille portrays the image of Maria Montessori, Italian physician and pedagogue. On the backside of the 1000 Italian lire banknote are children in a classroom. Text on the paper banknote reads ‘Banca D’Italia’.
